Pure wool
Nowadays, we can not only eat local, but dress local too! The wool from our Hampshire Down sheep is fine, soft and resilient. It is suitable for knitting and other needlework; weaving (think of outdoor clothing, cushions and rugs); and, when left in its raw state or carded, it can also be used to make felt.
Thanks to growing demand, we also collect wool from other local shepherds who rear breeds that produce beautiful wool, such as the Romane and the Charollaise. We work with craftspeople across France to turn this wool harvest into a range of products that everyone can enjoy: yarns, carded wool, felt and fleece for fibre art enthusiasts; lovely duvets, blankets and pillows made from pure wool; beautiful knitted and woven items; and simple, practical accessories. We work with both private individuals and professionals, so please do get in touch to tell us about your projects!
When shearing the sheep, we carefully sort the wool according to its intended use, and then have it washed at one of the last remaining wool-washing businesses in France, in the Haute-Loire. Once washed, the wool is either spun at a mill in the Creuse, or processed by us or our partner craftspeople: weavers, knitters, a felt-maker, quilt-makers… a 100% Made in France range which you can explore in full in our online shop!
The wool is available either in its natural colour, or dyed with natural dyes at the farm.
The wool is spun in a range of thicknesses so you can find just the right one for your craft project. Will it be winter socks, a light jacket for cool summer nights, a chunky fisherman’s jumper, a shepherd’s waistcoat, a coat or a cosy throw…
The wool is prepared in hanks,, you then need to wind it into balls or cakes, or we can alsopare it for you (just drop us a comment at check-out). To wind it at home, you’ll need a yarn swift – with or without a bobbin winder – or a chair of the right width, or the help of a kind passer-by, young or old! We also offer cones of undyed yarn in 500 g and 1 kg quantities.

- The natural ecru/cream colour is timelessly beautiful and is reminiscent of Irish or Scandinavian jumpers. It goes with everything and shows off your stitches to great effect. When knitting, try it with textured or cable stitches – you’ll love the result!
- This wool takes up natural dyes beautifully: you can hopefully expect some gorgeous results if you dye it yourself. Alternatively we also offer some superb colours in our shop; many of which are from wild plants that grow on and near the farm.
